Koh Samui was once a destination for those
looking for rustic bungalows an a quite beach holiday, but now Samui is
an international tourist destination of the first order. Chaweng Beach
is the busiest and most congested and there is very little of the Thai
Culture visible on Chaweng. But for tourists in search of a beach holiday
with vibrant nightlife just steps away, the powdery white sands of Chaweng
can be ideal.
Lamai Beach, farther south along the eastern coast is quieter. Nightlife
is more subdued. Plenty of dining opportunities are available.
Maenam Beach, which stretches along the northwestern shore, is Koh Samui's high rent district. Expensive homes plus 4 star and 5 star resorts dot the area. Maenam is quieter than the eastern beaches and caters to a unique group of residents and tourists.
