Korat is sometimes called the gateway to Issan (Northeastern Thailand). Nakorn Ratchasima lies at the north edge of Khao Yai National Park.
Phimai, about 50km north of Korat Town has an ancient Khmer ruins dates to the Angkor era and is constructed
in the style of Angkor Wat. Phimai is a very visitor friendly town, especially for those who self-drive.
Don Kwian Pottery Village is world famous for their unique pottery. A silk weaving village southeast of Korat Town offers demonstrations as well as shopping opportunities.
The local Immigration office is inside the pottery village.
